Charité – Campus Mitte

The Campus Mitte is the historic birthplace of the Charité and one of the key sites of modern university medicine in Germany. Built more than 300 years ago on the outskirts of what was then Berlin, the campus has developed over time into an internationally recognised centre for patient care, medical research and teaching.

Today, the Charité Campus Mitte is situated in the heart of Berlin, close to the main railway station, the government district and Humboldt University. Its historic buildings and modernised high-rise ward block, with a total of 780 beds, shape the character of the site and make it a widely visible landmark.

Advanced Medicine

The Department of Cardiology, Angiology and Intensive Care Medicine at the German Heart Center of Charité treats cardiac arrhythmias, heart valve diseases, coronary artery disease and other cardiovascular conditions. One key focus is catheter-based heart medicine, including ablation procedures and transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI). Since 2009, more than 3,000 TAVI procedures have been performed at Charité Campus Mitte.

The Charité Comprehensive Cancer Center (CCCC) is Germany’s largest certified cancer center. It coordinates cancer diagnostics and treatment through interdisciplinary tumor boards, clinical trials and translational research. The aim is to develop precise treatment recommendations based on the type of cancer and each patient’s individual medical situation.

Charité Campus Mitte is also home to Europe’s largest neurosurgical clinic. The clinic treats diseases of the brain, spinal cord, spine and peripheral nerves. Many patients present with highly complex conditions that may no longer be treatable elsewhere. The neurosurgical outpatient clinic at Campus Mitte specializes in brain tumors and is connected to the certified Neuro-Oncology Center.

The Department of Gynecology combines a specialized breast center with comprehensive breast diagnostics, cancer therapy and breast reconstruction. Additional services include care for hereditary breast and ovarian cancer, urogynecology, benign gynecological conditions and sports gynecology.
